The County Theater: Doylestown Classic Cinema

The County Theater in Doylestown isn’t just your typical movie house. Unlike multi screen megaplexes, The County Theater tries to cultivate the best of the classic movie-going experience. Memberships are available, which roll back the already reasonable prices for admission. Special events include a Saturday matinee perfect for the whole family, a filmed version of Sleeping Beauty as performed by the Royal Ballet, as well as many older classic films. In addition to newly released features, The County Theater also gives space to classics, cult films, and independent features. And don't worry: there's a snack bar with all your favorite movie treats — at very reasonable prices — in case you'd like some popcorn for the show

All of the artwork lining the walls is by local creative folks, and it’s rotated monthly. If you like a piece, everything is for sale. Coffee is by La Colombe and brewed expertly, with the baristas able to whip up just about any drink you might want. Zen Den also offers a staggering 27 types of organically grown and wild teas. They also have excellent protein shakes for fitness-minded customers, as well as pastries, cupcakes and bagels from local bakeries. If you’re looking to get some work done, the free Wi-Fi Internet for customers is fast and stable.

The County Theater: A Splendid Screen

If you’re looking to catch a movie in Doylestown, there’s one place locals will point you to, and that’s the County. Originally opened in 1938, the County was state of the art for the era, with gorgeous art deco styling and air conditioning, which was a novelty at the time. The place thrived until the 1970s, when the demise of Pennsylvania industry started causing people to move out of the region. In the 1980s, the air conditioning even stopped working and the theater couldn’t afford to fix it! In late 1992, a local nonprofit reopened the County and reinvented it as a community-run enterprise, purchasing the building in 1997. The awesome level of volunteer and member support helps them keep ticket prices low. The schedule is mostly foreign and arthouse films that you won’t get in other theaters around the region. Regulars rave about the snack bar, which features unusual picks like Toblerone chocolate bars.

Otto’s Brauhaus: Classic Brew House

Beer lovers from all over the Philadelphia area have been flocking to Otto’s Brauhaus in Horsham to sample the traditional German brews on offer. Open since the 1930s, it has transitioned through several owners while still maintaining a high level of quality and service. The German food here can’t be beat, with regulars raving about the mouth-watering schnitzels, sauerbraten, and apple strudel, as well as awesome steaks and seafood. But what you’re really here for is the huge outdoor beer garden, which is one of the best places to hang out with friends on a hot summer day. Designed in the classic Bavarian style with large tables perfect for sharing, Otto’s has become a hipster hub in Horsham’s social scene.
